Visiting Ponto-cho Kaburenjo-Theater on Sunday the 21th of May 2006 16:10 with tea Uji Japan-guide.com:Personally, I would take the subway from Kyoto Station to Shijo Station and then walk for about 5-10 minutes to Pontocho to avoid getting stuck in street traffic which can be very bad depending on the day and time. The 5-10 minute walk along the colorful Shijo Avenue is very interesting.
